The Curious Travels Tarot Deck by Amelia Rozear is a charming tarot heavily influenced by the Rider-Waite Tarot. For users of the classic tarot many of the scenes in the Curious Travels Tarot Deck will be familiar for the most part the artist does not stray far from Pamela Coleman Smiths timeless illustrations. However this deck is not a slavish copy it has its own original twists and turns. For starters many of the human figures in the Rider-Waite deck have been replaced by animals, and sometimes by anthropomorphic figures shamanistic beings caught somewhere in transition between human and animal. Humans have been replaced entirely by animals and insects in many of the cards a pair of dancing bees in the 4 of Wands, two intertwined snakes (which to my eyes look like the giant sand worms in Dune) in the 2 of Cups, a rather morose looking stag in the 10 of Wands, the very fishy King of Cups, various horses, lizards, even an orangutan make their appearance. This is a 79 card fully illustrated tarot deck. There are 22 Major Arcana cards, 56 Minor Arcana cards, and one extra card titled The Travellers.
