The second volume of Barbara Moore's Book of Shadows project, illustrated by Sabrina Ariganello and Alessia Pastorello, is the domestic half of a deliberate diptych: where Volume 1 mapped Wiccan cosmology, So Below shows the practice lived, witches working daily magick in kitchens, gardens and circles, a loose-leaf witch's journal as the review has it, with a vivid multiracial and youthful cast the review also notes. As above, so below, split across two decks: doctrine and dailiness. Moore's authorship, familiar from her companion texts across this catalog, keeps the practice depicted accurate to contemporary Wicca rather than Hollywood's. The diversity of the cast, notable for 2013, anticipated the inclusive wave by years. It suits practicing Wiccans who want their actual lives carded, the diptych's collectors, teachers showing craft-as-lived, and historians of representation in esoteric publishing.
