The record

Since the dawn of mankind on every continent bees have accompanied us on our journey – from our earliest ancestors the hunter gatherers to our current technologically-based society bees have always been with us. They are part of our food chain and without them the food chain vanishes, and we die. They are part of our mythology, our folklore, our art, and our everyday lives. People often talk about bees as humble insects, but are they really? Bees are the messengers of the gods, and the carriers of our souls when we die, they produce sacred honey which we can use as both food and medicine (and in the case of Oleander honey, poison). There are more than 20,000 different species of bees, and they too are evolving with their environment, with our environment. The Bee Tarot focuses on the magical world of bees, the myths and folklore surrounding them; and adds that to the extant body of tarot knowledge to create a charming and mystical deck. The Bee Tarot uses the classical Rider Waite Smith deck as its template, and indeed some of the artwork harks back to Pamela Coleman Smith’s images, however this is not a Rider-Waite clone deck with a few bees dropped into familiar designs.
