A Tarot Spread for Relationships

Five cards for seeing a connection more clearly.

What it is for

This is a spread for reflecting on a connection of any kind, romantic or otherwise, not for passing judgment on another person. Read at its best, it describes a dynamic and hands you back your own part in it.

The five positions

Lay the cards as two facing each other, with three between and around them.

  1. You: what you bring to the connection.
  2. The other person: what they bring, by temperament rather than as a prediction of their thoughts.
  3. The connection itself: the dynamic between you.
  4. What supports it: the strength to lean on.
  5. What challenges it: the friction to be honest about.

How to read it

Keep the reading on dynamics rather than verdicts. The cards in the "other person" position describe an energy in the relationship, not a window into someone's private mind. Spend the most time on your own positions: a relationship spread is most useful when it shows you your half of the pattern.
