Genius loci is a term that originated in ancient Rome refers to the deity or protective spirit of a place. Today that term is much broader in that it refers to the intangible and indescribable essence of a place that is a combination and culmination of history, culture, and environmental development. It is the magic of the intangible the mysterious feelings that one can intuit in certain places. People who live in or visit a particular location can feel a vibe this is the spirit of the place. It is genius loci that is explored through the Wisdom of Place Tarot. Artists and creators Elizabeth Boults and Chip Sullivan explore what genius loci means to different cultures and how it manifests, its many appearances and expressions throughout history via belief, myth, folklore. The Wisdom of Place Tarot Deck originally appeared in a glossy coffee table book called Wisdom of Place: Elements of Sacred Landscapes written by the creators of this tarot deck.
