Have you ever thought about your own personal Shadowland? Those shadowy spaces in the dark recesses of your mind? Maybe you think of your head as a haunted house complete with ghosts and little monsters lurking around the corners, cobwebs in the windows and bats in the belfry. We all have our own dark places, whether we choose to acknowledge them, visit them, work with them or work through them is a matter of personal choice. The Shadowland Tarot has been devised specifically with the aim of helping the Seeker address their shadow realms. So, what is shadow work? It is this spiritual and psychological practice of uncovering, exploring, and ultimately integrating the hidden and repressed aspects of oneself, one’s life. Carl Jung coined the term The Shadow Self and defined it as representing the parts of our personality that we hide, deny or find unacceptable based on our upbringing, the expectations of the society around us, and past trauma. He believed that by uncovering these hidden parts and bringing them into our consciousness we could become more balanced, authentic, and complete.
