The Canon's read
Tarot Canon's own assessment, written for this catalog.
The credit list is the story: Stephanie Pui-Mun Law of the Shadowscapes, comics legend Michael Kaluta, Vince Locke, Yasmine, Saana Lappalainen, an A-list of fantasy illustration assembled for the Mage: The Awakening Tarot, White Wolf's roleplaying line commissioning a deck-shaped art object for its world of awakened magic. Game tie-ins rarely field talent at this level; Mage's premise, reality as consensual illusion the awakened rewrite, practically demanded a tarot, the game's mages being tarot's own theory with character sheets.
The deck serves double duty by design: table prop for chronicles, and a genuine multi-artist deck whose contributors' followings collect it independent of the game. Beside the Harrow's systemic rigor, it is the story-game wing's painterly answer. It suits Mage players and White Wolf's generation, Law and Kaluta collectors crossing over, game-deck completists, and readers who suspect their reality could use awakened editing. The consensus, as the game says, is negotiable.
