Donaldson's Dragon Tarot showed the specialty formula working; here the review testifies it did not, and honest catalogs record the misses that make the hits legible. The failure is instructive about adaptation: Tolkien's world is itself so internally systematic that a loose oracle insults the source's own rigor, fans arriving with more structural knowledge than the deck deployed. Middle-earth deserved a Harrow-grade design and received forty sketches. It suits Tolkien completists who collect even the cautionary items, licensing-history students, and oracle designers studying what fandom scrutiny punishes.
