The Canon's read

Tarot Canon's own assessment, written for this catalog.

Tony Christie's forty-eight cards through Gaois Publications take the labyrinth as their whole vocabulary: the single winding path, walked for centuries in cathedral naves and turf mazes as a portable pilgrimage, here dealt into a card practice of the same shape. The labyrinth's genius as a metaphor is that it is not a maze: there are no wrong turns, only the long way in and the long way back, which reframes any question a reader brings from where did I go wrong toward where am I on the path. That single honest move gives the deck its use: draws locate rather than predict, meditation equipment more than divination. It pairs naturally with actual labyrinth walking, and Christie's framing keeps the tradition's contemplative Christian and pre-Christian threads both in reach. It suits walkers, meditators, spiritual directors and journalers, anyone whose practice is processional. Readers who want their cards to fork and gamble should pick a maze; this instrument only ever goes inward.
