The Canon's read

Tarot Canon's own assessment, written for this catalog.

Lo Scarabeo's Grand Trumps format takes a deck's majors and prints them large, and this edition gives Silvana Alasia's Egyptian imagery that treatment: the twenty-two trumps of her papyrus-toned tempera at presentation scale. Grand Trumps editions serve the uses small cards cannot: teaching, meditation on a single image, altar display, the majors as objects of contemplation rather than shuffle stock. Within the catalog's Alasia shelf, the full Egyptian Tarot remains the working deck while this edition is its exhibition print run, the same art asking for a different kind of attention. The format also flatters Alasia's technique; tomb-painting pastiche gains presence at tomb-painting scale. It suits owners of the full deck who want its majors displayable, teachers of the Egyptian register, meditation practitioners who work one image at a time, and format collectors assembling the Grand Trumps series. Shufflers should keep the standard size in the working bag; these cards prefer the wall.
