The Matter of Britain resists the oracle format less than you might expect, because it already is a deck of characters: every retelling since Malory has shuffled the same knights, queens and hermits into new arrangements. John Matthews, who has spent a career in the Arthurian sources, structures the Camelot Oracle accordingly. Thirty-two of its forty cards are figures, Arthur, Guinevere, Gawain and their company, and eight are Path cards, which turns any reading into a small quest: draw who you are travelling as, then draw the road.
