The Canon's read

Tarot Canon's own assessment, written for this catalog.

The archive's reviewer owned this deck as a first and only, and years on was still discovering things in it, which is the Arcus Arcanum's reputation in miniature: Hansrudi Wascher's 1987 deck draws with great clarity and packs that clarity with symbol. The combination is rarer than it sounds. Most symbol-dense decks are also visually dense; this one keeps clean, legible scenes while loading the detail with esoteric reference, so it reads easily at first and keeps unfolding for years. The reviewer's caution stands: not a beginner's deck, not because it is hard to look at but because its depths assume a reader who eventually goes looking for them. As a companion for long study it is the opposite of disposable, one deck that behaves like a library. It suits committed students who want a single deck to grow into, symbol-hunters, and readers of the German esoteric school of the 1980s. Collectors chasing novelty will miss what makes it last.
