The Canon's read
Tarot Canon's own assessment, written for this catalog.
Before the Alchemical Tarot in this catalog, Robert M. Place and Rosemary Ellen Guiley made the Angels Tarot: the celestial hierarchy dealt into a full deck, Place's emblematic line applied to beings that art history spent centuries codifying. The pairing's method was already formed, Guiley's encyclopedic research (her reference works on angels remain standard) with Place's scholar-artist precision, so the angels arrive with their traditions intact: thrones, powers and messengers as the sources describe them, not as the gift-shop softens them.
That sourcing separates it from the angel-oracle mainstream this catalog documents elsewhere: this is angelology, the study, wearing tarot's structure, closer in spirit to the esoteric shelf than to Virtue's comfort register. It suits readers who want their angels with citations, Place completists collecting his partnerships, students of Guiley's references, and anyone curious what the celestial hierarchy looks like taken seriously as arcana. Comfort-seekers have gentler flights nearby; these angels have jobs.
