The Canon's read

Tarot Canon's own assessment, written for this catalog.

Hilma's Ghost, the feminist collective of painters Dannielle Tegeder and Sharmistha Ray, made this deck as fine art first: it descends from Hilma af Klint's spiritualist abstraction and showed at the Armory Show before publication in 2023. That lineage is not decoration. Af Klint painted her abstractions as channeled spiritual instruments decades before abstraction was supposed to exist, and a tarot built in her register returns abstraction to its original occult job. Like the Colquhoun deck, this is tarot without figures, where geometry and color carry the arcana; unlike the Colquhoun, it arrives with the contemporary art world's full endorsement. Reading it is projective by design, the card as meditation object rather than illustrated meaning. It suits readers working the art-tarot borderland, admirers of af Klint's revival, feminist collectors, and anyone who wants their deck to hang comfortably in a gallery. Readers needing narrative scenes should pair it with something figurative.
