The Canon's read
Tarot Canon's own assessment, written for this catalog.
The 78 Tarot Project went to sea for its Nautical edition: seventy-eight artists, one maritime card each, the ocean as the collaborative's organizing water. Of the project's themes it may be the most structurally apt; tarot's suits already sail (Cups the sea's own vessel, the Star the navigator's card), and maritime symbolism, voyage, storm, harbor, wreck, deep, is divination's oldest metaphor set wearing its original salt.
The collaborative form means the fleet is mismatched by design, tall ships beside sea monsters beside lighthouse keepers, which suits an ocean that has carried every kind of vessel. Series collectors log it beside Carnival and Astral as the census continues. It suits the project's completists, sea people and coast dwellers, maritime-symbol readers, and anyone whose questions naturally phrase themselves as weather and passage. Single-artist coherence sails elsewhere; this deck is a harbor's worth of hulls, and the harbor is the point.
