The Canon's read

Tarot Canon's own assessment, written for this catalog.

The 78 Tarot Project's Astral edition points its seventy-eight contributing artists at the cosmos: astral and mystical themes, cosmic divination as the collaborative's shared brief, coordinated in the Trish Sullivan era of the project's management. The series' constitutional trade holds, maximum variety, no continuity, but the astral theme flatters it unusually well; the cosmos is already a collection of unlike objects sharing one dark, so seventy-eight different styles reading as one sky is almost the theme behaving literally. Series collectors track the editions as a running census of card-inclined illustration, and Astral documents the roster's cosmic register. It suits the project's collectors continuing the set, space-minded readers who want their arcana nebular, artists browsing a collective portfolio, and variety-lovers. The single-vision astral decks, the Cosmic Slumber's dream-drift, the celestial shelf generally, offer coherence instead; the Astral offers the actual night sky's approach, many lights, one field.
