Justice concerns truth, fairness, and the honest weighing of consequences. It asks you to look clearly at cause and effect, taking responsibility for your part. Reflect on where a decision needs impartial clarity, and whether you are being honest with yourself about what is truly fair.

Reversed, Justice's scales sit uneven: a truth being dodged, accountability deflected, or a judgment skewed by bias. Read it as the consequence not yet faced, the dishonesty that throws everything else off balance, or the unfairness you are on one side of. The card asks where you are avoiding responsibility, and what it would take to set the account straight.

In relationships, Justice is fairness and honesty: even give and take, consequences owned, the truth told plainly. Read it as a call to balance and accountability between people. Reversed, it points to imbalance or evasion, one person carrying more than their share or a dishonesty distorting the bond, and asks what needs to be made right.
In work & money
In work and money, Justice favours straight dealing: contracts honoured, decisions made on merit, cause meeting its fair effect. Read it as a prompt to act with integrity and expect the same. Reversed, it flags unfairness, bias, or accountability ducked, and asks whether a situation is as even-handed as it is being made to seem.

17th-century woodcutLa Justice, numbered VIII in this tradition, sits crowned and frontal with sword and balance, plainest of the cardinal virtues.
Rider-Waite-Smith
1909Waite renumbered the card XI, swapped with Strength, and Smith enthroned her between pillars with the sword upright and the scales level.
Thoth
1938-1943Crowley keeps VIII and renames it Adjustment: the masked figure of Maat poised on her toes, sword down, scales hung between alpha and omega, Libra's exact balance.
